Jeuveau vs. Botox: Choosing a Wrinkle Relaxer in San Antonio, TX

Both soften lines by relaxing the muscles beneath them. Here is how the two most requested neuromodulators compare, and how our nurse practitioners help you decide.

What Jeuveau and Botox Have in Common

Jeuveau and Botox are both neuromodulators made from botulinum toxin type A. When a small amount is injected into a specific facial muscle, it blocks the signal that tells that muscle to contract. The muscle relaxes, the skin above it stops creasing, and expression lines soften over the following days. Neither product fills a line the way a dermal filler does; they work on the cause of dynamic wrinkles rather than the wrinkle itself.

Both are FDA-approved, both are dosed in units, and both are placed with the same technique by the same injectors at Fountain of Youth Élite. The treatment areas overlap almost completely: frown lines, forehead lines, crow's feet, bunny lines, brow lift, lip flip, gummy smile, chin dimpling, and masseter slimming.

Where the Two Products Differ

Approval and Focus

Botox has been used cosmetically since 2002 and also carries medical indications for migraine, hyperhidrosis, and muscle spasticity. Jeuveau, sometimes called "Newtox," was approved in 2019 and is marketed purely for aesthetic use. That narrower focus is one reason it is often priced a little more competitively.

Onset

Some patients notice Jeuveau beginning to work within two to three days, a touch sooner than the three to five days typical of Botox. By the two-week mark, when we evaluate results, the difference has usually evened out.

Formulation

Jeuveau is manufactured with a purification process its maker calls Hi-Pure, and its protein complex is slightly different from Botox. In practice, the two products behave similarly in the muscle. Dosing is roughly one-to-one, which makes switching between them straightforward.

How Our Nurse Practitioners Help You Choose

At our San Antonio clinic, Jeuveau is the neuromodulator you can book directly as a new or current patient. If you have had great results with Botox or Dysport and want to continue, say so at your consultation and we will plan around it. The honest answer for most first-time patients is that the injector's assessment matters far more than the brand name on the vial.

Your facial mapping, muscle strength, and goals determine the dose and placement. The product is simply the tool. Choose the provider first, then the product.

Lynda and Maria map your expressions before every treatment, agree on the number of units with you, and check results at two weeks. That process is identical whether you choose Jeuveau or Botox.

Who Might Prefer One Over the Other

  • First-time patients often start with Jeuveau for its aesthetic focus and value.
  • Loyal Botox patients who are happy with their results can continue with Botox by consultation.
  • Patients who feel their product wears off early sometimes do well switching brands.
  • Patients treating medical concerns such as migraine are evaluated for Botox specifically.

Preparing for Your Appointment

  1. Avoid alcohol, aspirin, ibuprofen, and fish oil for 24 hours if your clinician allows, to reduce bruising.
  2. Arrive with clean skin and no makeup on the treatment areas.
  3. Bring notes on any previous neuromodulator treatments, including units and timing.
  4. Plan to stay upright and skip strenuous exercise for about four hours afterward.

Neuromodulator FAQs

Jeuveau and Botox Questions Patients Ask Most

Is Jeuveau the same as Botox?

They are different brands of the same type of medication, botulinum toxin type A. Both relax targeted facial muscles to soften expression lines. Jeuveau was FDA-approved in 2019 specifically for aesthetic use, while Botox has been used cosmetically since 2002 and also carries medical indications.

Does Jeuveau work faster than Botox?

Some patients report seeing Jeuveau take effect a day or two sooner, often within two to three days, while Botox typically shows within three to five days. Full results for both are evaluated at about two weeks, and the difference in onset is modest for most people.

Which lasts longer, Jeuveau or Botox?

Duration is similar, generally three to four months for either product. How long results last depends more on your dose, muscle strength, metabolism, and treatment consistency than on the brand, which is why your provider tailors units to you.

Can I switch from Botox to Jeuveau?

Yes. Many patients switch between neuromodulator brands without issue. Tell your provider what you have used before and how it performed so dosing can be matched. Switching is also a reasonable step if you feel your current product is wearing off sooner than it used to.
